The original, taken from Perc's Wicker & Steel album, is a robust broken beat affair with factory machinery undertones and heavy echoing drums. Sounds as though a pissed off dock worker was beating a forty foot steel container with an auburn Louisville Slugger bat, without the intention of stopping until one of them drops. Unfortunately, the track never really gains any real momentum, as it all just goes on for too long without any real charm or spectacular finish. Sure, it will hold its turf in any damp warehouse halfway through the night, but it can barely hold a candle. The first single from Perc's forthcoming debut album, Wicker & Steel , My Head Is Slowly Exploding, does justice to the album's title with an unusually tactile approach to techno, and an unusually stark one as well-six minutes of mortar blasts and a ringing in your ears. Many strokes for many folks... Three totally different approaches to the same piece. The original, taken from Perc's "Wicker & Steel" album, is a robust broken beat affair with factory machinery undertones and heavy echoing drums. Sure, it will hold its turf in any damp warehouse halfway through the night, but it can barely hold a candle to the Ancient Methods remix.

Speaking of which, the duo of Beeks and Trias is walking on water, yet again. They up the malevolence by adding a rougher, flat-out banging percussion pattern, a huge haunting hook which brings the entire audio spectrum to a complete end of physical soundness, existence, or usefulness. Ancient Methods aim right for the aorta of the dance floor, wisely introducing the original's broken beat drum arrangement during the track's massive breaks, and then unleash their trademark, slightly off-kilter filthy pounding beats which leave doomed souls with obliterative arteriosclerosis. Just check out the introduction sample: "There is no time for rejoicing! We must destroy it before we do anything else!". Drop the hook. Lay down the irascible riff. Let the well tempered beat roll. Ace to the bone marrow!

If you like this one, make sure you do not miss out on the remix they did for Agony Forces' Polar Era, earlier on this year, as it is along the lines of this top notch slammer. Another gold ducat tucked under the mighty heavy weight Ancient Methods belt.

For reference only, the Chris Carter take is not really my cup of milk; a dub techno influenced rework, with abundant hisses, wind recordings, surface clicks and what not. I think we have too much of that lately. However, the other two track are well worth it for those who like a lot of calcium in their protein energy drinks.
