Robert Bradley's Blackwater Surprise is an American band. It formed in 1994 when former members of the band Second Self met the blind street performer Robert Bradley. Bradley was born in Alabama, and gained musical experience and spirit by singing as a child at The Alabama School for the Blind. He had spent several years in Detroit by 1994, performing occasionally on the street, and playing on Saturdays in Detroit's Eastern Market, when guitarist Michael Nehra, bassist Andrew Nehra, and drummer Jeff. No annoying studio tricks and gimmicky dance sounds. Just good music in the poprock vein. And, on their latest release, theyve taken a step in the soul direction. That should be no surprise given the singing of Robert Bradley. All I Wanna Do features great chord changes, wonderful vocals by Bradley, and guitar work that helps drive the tune along. Not sure who plays what, but guitarists Matthew Ruffino and Russ Epker work together very well. The cut has great single-note and chordal fills that are pure soul heaven. They pop along and really contribute to the groove. Still Lovin' You. When You Love Something. Time to Discover. Robert Bradley's Blackwater Surprise. Solo Acoustic, Vol. Jackson Browne. The songs are sung with an engaging weariness, while the band stews together soul, roots rock, and bits of blues and funk to craft a 1970s-like soul sound, though more rock-oriented than much commercial '70s soul. All I Wanna Do and to a lesser degree Still Lovin' You are uncharacteristically slick, in a rather '70s swee. Music Video for Once Upon A Time from the album Robert Bradley's Blackwater Surprise. 1996 RCA Bradley was a Detroit street singer for years before he was convinced to enter the studio by a group of young alternative rockers. The resulting album, Blackwater Surprise, is indeed surprising - an effective collaboration between a blind blues musician and a sympathetic Detroit rock trio. The band wisely decided to stay in the background and let Bradley do his thing - namely, improvising blues and soul shuffles and stomps in his extraordinary voice. On paper, the music sounds simple, but there's unexpected depth - there are shades of gospel, soul, Motown and hard rock on the al. Privacy Preference Center.
