Marquee Moon. Tom Verlaine. Marquee Moon is the debut album by American rock band Television. It was released on February 8, 1977, by Elektra Records. In the years leading up to the album, Television had become a prominent act on the New York music scene and generated interest from a number of record labels, eventually signing a record deal with Elektra. The group rehearsed extensively in preparation for Marquee Moon before recording it at A & R Recording in September 1976. It was produced by the band's frontman Tom Verlaine and. Формируйте собственную коллекцию записей Moon is the debut album of the New York City-based band Television. The band had become a popular staple in the NYC live scene before signing with Elektra records to record the album. With Marquee Moon, Television created a sound with interwoven guitar parts, and plenty of groove that was unlike anything out at the time. Although they were, in essence, a punk band, they did not fall into the typical pitfalls of a punk band. The band members were very proficient in their respective instruments, and they adapted jazz improvisation, which was a departure from punks garage rock influence. While often considered a seminal work to come out of the New York punk scene of the late 1970's, the album differs from conventional punk in its clean, textured guitar-based arrangements and extended improvisation. As a result, it is also often cited as important to the development of post-punk and New Wave genres. While critically acclaimed at the time of its release, the album failed to garner commercial. Marquee Moon is a revolutionary album, but it's a subtle, understated revolution. Without question, it is a guitar rock album - it's astonishing to hear the interplay between Tom Verlaine and Richard Lloyd - but it is a guitar rock album unlike any other. Marquee Moon is comprised entirely of tense garage rockers that spiral into heady intellectual territory, which is achieved through the group's long, interweaving instrumental sections, not through Verlaine's words. That alone made Marquee Moon a trailblazing album - it's impossible to imagine post-punk soundscapes without it. Album 1977 8 Songs. Rock 1977. See No Evil. Genre: Art Punk. Rhino and labels in the future will keep carbon-dating and explaining Marquee Moon, but sometime in the future, some Martian kid who can't get dates and hates sports will look past the plaque and sit in his room, blaring this music and wondering how life can possibly sound this great. Track 13 is called "O Mi Amore". It's unclear why it is listed as "Untitled Instrumental". It appears on bootlegs from 1976 onwards with lyrics.
Mr_Jeйson
I´m enjoying so much this reissue. Love the pressing and the sound is terrific. A must.

I’m intrigued by this entry? In the first place my 4MWB reissue copy of this LP was purchased from jpc in Germany in 2003! I know this because I cleaned it on the 13th June 2003 and treated it with LAST. I use a record card indexing system on my records on which are recorded pertinent details, including when they were cleaned etc.. The dead wax on my copy is 4M-501A1 and 4M-501B1. It doesn’t sound bad at all! It is not as good as the 2012 Chris Bellman cut but it is quite listenable ... at least on my set up. For the longest time I have read in the various audio fora (forums) how awful this reissue sounds and I could never quite reconcile these opinions with my own impressions based on my copy. Are there different pressings, I wonder? The second thing that intrigues me is the quality of the pressing? The entry here states Rainbo (now defunct of course) as the manufacturing plant. My copy is an example of a really good, centred and flat pressing with beautiful glossy surfaces on each side. There is no surface noise at all on my copy. If this is a Rainbo pressing, then my immediate question would be what in heaven happened to Rainbo? From producing quality like this (not talking about sound quality) to what it became in subsequent years is a level of deterioration that I find hard to fathom. You can criticise the aesthetics of the release which will not appeal to some, but the sound quality and most of all the pressing quality are pretty good and excellent in that order. I will really have to post details of my copy which is still in shrink and the hype sticker is intact. Is it possible that there are variations in respect of this release?
Beazezius
This a groundbreaking masterpiece, when listening it deserves your undivided attention. Listen intently on good system in the dark and you will be rewarded. Everybody has their own favorite tracks so I won't go into my favorites. Get this on vinyl because it was meant that way but also pick up the CD reissue with Little Johnny Jewel and the alternate takes of some of the classics. The liners notes are a great read. Wonderful!
Wrathmaster
Really good pressing!!! Rhino always has awesome pressings.Record is completely clean and without any dust sound.
Unsoo
My copy has the album title in quotes “MARQUEE MOON” on the cover. Only realized today that this isn’t true on all versions. Anyone else?It has the butterfly labels and lyric inner sleeve.
Mala
Yes, mine's the same. I think I bought it soon after it came out.
Ceroelyu
My copy of this has 9.58 on the back cover for Marquee Moon but the CD itself has the full take (10.39).
Dianazius
Excellent reissue, It takes exactly that deserves to a classic album...
Tetaian
rare edition, great pressing but it's too bad that these early editions have a shortened version of Marquee Moon. later reissues contain a one minute longer version of this song.
YSOP
Found a used copy of this in my local record store yesterday. It was in great shape but I was a little concerned about the quality of the repress, not having read up on it beforehand. As it turns out, I had nothing to worry about -- it sounds fantastic. And looks fantastic too: other than the heavyweight vinyl it appears to be almost a clone of the original.
Jesmi
Rediscovered the album with this version (after original LP and an awful CD version from the 90s)
Whitebinder
I can't recommend this release. There's a significant skip on the first track, right out of the shrink wrap. This is not the first bad experience I've had with Rhino reissues--but it's definitely my last. The album is unquestionably a classic, but I advise you to seek out a different pressing.
Cha
Love this pressing! I have not heard the Bellman but I can't imagine it sounding better than this. Plus you get the bonuses with this pressing
Jake
all reissues should be done with this much care. very satisfied.....plus a poly inner sleeve
Mullador
The blue marbled records are very attractive, and they are nice and quiet, but I find this pressing runs awfully fast -- almost a quarter tone (and my too-fast turntable adds another eighth of a tone or so). Both records are affected.
Shakagul
Does anyone know out of how many this edition is out of?
Conjuril
One of my few double dips I've done. Already own the Rhino Bellman cut from a few years back, but I was intrigued by this being a double LP and blue. Totally worth it! Sound is terrific. Maybe even better than the Bellman pressing. Also, being able to have a copy of Little Johnny Jewel on vinyl is awesome as well. Although the cover isn't a gatefold, it's still a nice matte finish and not just boring lifeless cardboard. The blue vinyl is a real beauty. Mine is more of a marbled blue which looks quite nice. Both LP's stored in black poly-lined sleeves, which Rhino seems to ALWAYS do. I like that. Highly recommended!
Very Old Chap
My CD copy of this is a mispress - audio is the first CSNY album. I've had it since about 1990.
Kikora
Wow. This 1st press sound brilliant and bright!! Full bodied. I even love the laminated sleeve.
Tygrafym
why this record is the sale blocked, if it is official?
Bliss
Note: This new Blue 2 x LP is not the Chris Bellman cut but rather a version "Mastered At Capitol" by Ian Sefchick. I haven't heard the Bellman cut but this version certainly does not sound bad at all. I actually think it sounds pretty stellar. Deep, rich bass complete with a punchy, lifelike drum kit sound, crisp, clear vocals, excellent separation, wide soundstage, full and dynamic. Quality pressing with no noise, flat discs, centered correctly, no clicks or pops, comes in polylined sleeve with lyric insert. Not gatefold, flimsy single sleeve. Nice sound for a nice price. Plus the bonus disc w/ Johnny Jewel and a cool instrumental, can't go wrong with this one.
Tejora
thanks for the review ..... i might have to double dip on this ... as i have the bellman cut, and i frankly found it a harsh listening experience .... to the point where i don't even like playing the damn LP anymore, and rather listen to the CD ..... so this is very good news. it's a shame and frankly strange, as CB is usually right on the mark with his cuts .....
EXIBUZYW
Is this only being released in the UK? The US version is a single disc. I'd love to have Little Johnny Jewel!
Bumand
I just got it in Peru so you can probably get it where you live. I strongly recommend that everyone owns this version :)
Owomed
I just picked up the US version and it has both discs

Does anyone have a pressing with two side 2 centre labels
Enila
I just bought this European press, sealed, and here in the U.S., but it came in the U.S. outer sleeve(with the R1 1098 code on the hype sticker, and on the back cover. How strange. I am happy to have mine pressed by Optimal Media GmbH, and not at RTI (where the american version was pressed.)

Sounds fantastic! Good inherent volume and no problems with my pressing. Give a cleaning before listening though...
Rainbearer
perfect sounding pressing of one of my all time favourite albums. if you love marquee moon but can't get an original pressing in good shape, get this reissue. all analogue heavy, thick and silent vinyl. no clicks or pops throughout play. fazit: 10 out of 10 tv antennas

Great pressing of Marquee Moon, as enjoyable as my original press. A desert island disc, definitely worth having this pressing as a final copy. Curious as to what everyone else thinks, it seems that this is the only version in print right now.

Well done re-release overall. Sound is great, no complaints on this one.

Terrible looking pressing. I can't compare this to an actual original pressing in terms of sound (at first it sounded it had more bottom, though) but I saw the original Marque Moon quite a few times around so I'm familiar with it, and I can tell you that the whole artwork is nothing short but awful. The image of the band on the cover is pretty bad, the gatefold with the liner notes of this dude from San Francisco are a weird addition, the overall glossy feel, and, most of all, the typography that has been clearly redone with a similar Helvetica to the original, makes it look pretty bad and cheap in my opinion. The inner label is also pretty terrible. I think this label picks the right records and ruin them all with their questionable taste. Their invasively big logo is everywhere, you see San Francisco mentioned all over the place like it would be a bloody Grateful Dead record or something and I don't even want to comment on the foolish name they choose for themselves. I was initially attracted by this record selling for $12 at a local store here in NY but I had to pass, really. I wouldn't want this in my collection. The Rhino one definitely looks more proper and closer to the original if you are into reissues.

Yeah its a ghetto reissue for sure - looks more like a bootleg!

Does anyone have the Side B label on both sides of the vinyl? Mine does.
Asher
Ha, just posted the very same wonder how many copies?
Not-the-Same
No, mine has A and B as they should be.

Can't believe nobody has reviewed/left a comment on this reissue! This thing sounds fantastic, it's so crisp and clear and I even bought it used. The sound is fantastic!!! This album is an all time classic, it has no genre that I can apply to its name. Great album, great pressing.

Yes, Yes, what they ^ said. One of the best reissues I own.
Moonshaper
I completely agree, this is a fantastic reissue, a great job on the remaster by Chris Bellman. This is massively better than the CD reissue that Rhino brought out in 2003 (R2 73920), which sounds compressed and lifeless by comparison.
Itiannta
Good pressing in my opinion. Very heavy record feels almost 200g bass is punchy and tight - drums and cymbals sound alive
Gelgen
My version has Matrix / Runout: CD 755960616-2.2 12/02 V18 and IFPI's L011 (outer) an 05A0 (inner).
Whatever
One of the best Albums ever made !! Bands like the strokes would not exist without this one !!

this is a very nice original japan copy of the debut lp by television from 1977, i belive this was only pressed once in japan in 1977 and that was the only printing but i could be wrong, anyway nice thick blue mid 70s style obi strip and this comes with 2 inserts, one sheet is a japanese essay on television and the other is the lyric sheet w/ lyrics in english, this japan edition is a bit harder to find then the second lp adventure from 1978...........
Shalizel
Same as https://www.discogs.com/Television-Marquee-Moon/release/543283 so both should be merged into one.
Narim
I have this version, there is a small deviation on the label B - Side. Produced by Andy Johns for Maverick Productions, Ltd. and Tom VerlaineHave no matching version found...
Ylal
Nice release
Xtani
I have this version, but it's lacking the thick inner sleeve with lyrics and pictures. Otherwise the condition is absolutely mint, so I don't see why they would have to substitute the inner sleeve. Does anybody know anything about a variant?
Flarik
I have this version too - also, with no thick inner sleeve.
AfinaS
I hate the case this CD comes in, my disc was really scratched up after just a handful of listens. Does a disc tray really up production costs that much??
