This album is amazing, 92-96 was definitely the best era of techno and idm tunes. Imeat is one of my favorites. The album is golden. It is better than a lot of stuff released today, in fact some of these tracks could have been released today because it is a fresh 90s album Pure gold. 답글 나에게 알림 5 Helpful. Kokotsu, 1994. Although later work such as the 1995 follow-up, Moonfunk would mix styles even more freely, Kokotsu brings elements of hip-hop, techno, ambient, and electro-funk into close proximity, assembling dynamic, interesting, even danceable tracks admirable for their focus and consistency. Imeat is one of my favorites. The album is golden. It is better than a lot of stuff released today, in fact some of these tracks could have been released today because it is a fresh 90s album! Pure gold.
1994 was a magical year for electronic music. innovators accross the globe were taking the initial detroit blueprint, fracturing, breaking, and slowing down the rhythms, while re-sampling and editing them for good measure, and injecting a whole lotta ambience into the mix, creating a sound which never quite broke the mainstream like so called "electronica" did, but whose influence can be heard almost anywhere (literally, just listen to some modern pop/r & B and pay attention to the backing tracks, or watch some commercials on TV and listen to the music. back then, trainspotters labeled this movement IDM, something the fans latched onto, and the artists continually tried to reject in the press. It means "intelligent dance music" and now, so many years removed from the hype of it all, it seems strangly appropriate. this was music without comprimise, and artists who always danced to the beat of their own drum. it has spawned, or influenced countless sub genres, imitators, etc, and yet, through it all, most of the major players from back then are still producing incredible music now.

however, there were a number of amazing artists/albums that stand more as timeless peroid pieces, and while the artists have gone on to do other things, their legacy remains stamped on the scene via some very special records. although tournesol was only around for a couple of albums worth of material, they set the bar high for themselves and delivered a couple of real classics. this was their first album, and it shows a consistant theme of slow and moody songs, with an orchestral feel to the melodies at times, while the drums move along with some well programmed digital trickery (for the time, almost reminiscent in parts of tri-repeate by autechre, despite pre-dating it by a year). although the specific sound doesn't really compare, the mood of this album has alot in common with locust (weathered well), biosphere (microgravity) and beaumont hannant (texurology). thats high praise indeed (and you can see the discogs recommends are all pretty spot on as well). Thier follow up album was VERY different, opting for a more detroit/orb type outing, and while good in its own right, cant quite match the atmosphere presented here.
